Quick answer

Is a warm Thermador refrigerator a big repair?

Usually not. Most warm Thermador columns and built-ins trace to a fan, a defrost part, a sensor, a control board or a hinge, with typical repairs of $300 to $1,100. A sealed-system repair runs $1,200 to $2,500 and is still far below replacing a panel-ready column. The $179 diagnostic comes off the repair.

What Thermador Owners Tell Us

  • "The fridge column is warm but the freezer column next to it is fine."
  • "It's beeping and showing a temperature alarm."
  • "There's a sheet of frost on the back wall of the freezer."
  • "Water is pooling under the crisper drawers."
  • "The ice maker quit, or the ice comes out small and cloudy."
  • "The door doesn't close on its own anymore."
  • "It runs all day and the top grille feels hot."
  • "The display went dark after a power flicker."

Two Columns, Two Systems

A paired Thermador column setup is two separate refrigerators side by side. Each column has its own compressor, fans, sensors and controls. So a warm refrigerator column says nothing about the freezer column next to it. We diagnose the one that failed and note anything worth watching on the other, so you're not paying to fix what isn't broken.

What Usually Goes Wrong With a Thermador Refrigerator

Condenser airflow. Thermador built-ins breathe through a grille at the top or toe-kick. In a Las Vegas kitchen that sits near 80°F all summer, a grille packed with fine desert dust and pet hair makes the compressor run long and hot. Warm compartments and a hot grille are the first signs.

Evaporator fan and defrost system. The evaporator fan moves cold air across the coil and into the cabinet. The defrost heater, its sensor and the control that times it keep that coil clear. When one of those parts fails, frost builds on the back wall, airflow drops and the fresh-food side warms first.

Temperature sensors and the electronic control. Each zone reads its own sensor, and the main board decides when to cool. Monsoon-season power flickers and surges are hard on that board. A failing sensor gives wrong readings and alarms; a failing board gives a dark display or a unit that stops cooling altogether.

Ice maker and water valve. Las Vegas water is some of the hardest in the country. Scale collects in the inlet valve and the ice maker fill path, which is behind most of the slow, small or cloudy ice we see on Thermador units here.

Door hinges, closers and gaskets. Panel-ready doors carry heavy cabinet fronts. Over years, hinges and soft-close parts wear and the door stops sealing. Dry desert air also hardens gaskets, so warm air slips in and the unit runs harder.

Sealed system. Less often, the compressor, evaporator or refrigerant charge is the problem. Summer heat and long run times wear compressors. We repair sealed systems on Thermador built-ins, and we tell you plainly when the numbers favor replacing instead.

What Thermador Refrigerator Repairs Typically Cost

Typical ranges, depending on the unit and the repair. These are not quotes.

  • Fan motor, defrost part or sensor: $350–$850
  • Door gasket, hinge or closer: $300–$700
  • Ice maker replacement: $450–$850
  • Control board: $500–$1,100
  • Sealed system (compressor, evaporator, refrigerant): $1,200–$2,500

Your exact price is set after the $179 diagnostic, and you approve it before any work starts.

Repair or replace?

Repair, in most cases. A Thermador column or built-in is sized to its cabinet opening and dressed in custom panels. Replacing it means a new unit, new panels or trim, and installation, and the opening has to match. A fan, sensor, board or ice maker repair sits far below that. A sealed-system repair on a much older unit is the one case where we lay out both numbers side by side and let you decide.

How the $179 diagnostic works

  1. Call or book online, and choose the arrival window that suits you.
  2. Our tech traces the warm zone to the part behind it: fan, defrost, sensor, board or sealed system.
  3. Before anything is touched, you see one flat repair price.
  4. Say yes and the $179 is credited to the repair. If we miss your confirmed window, the diagnostic costs nothing.
FAQ

Thermador Refrigerator Repair FAQ

Are you factory authorized?

No. Tuffix Pro is an independent repair service, not affiliated with Thermador or its parent company, BSH Home Appliances.

Only one of my Thermador columns is warm. Is the other one at risk?

Not because of the failed one. Each Freedom column has its own compressor, fans and controls. We diagnose the warm column and tell you if we see anything worth watching on the other.

Why is there frost on the back wall of my Thermador freezer?

Usually a defrost fault: the heater, its sensor or the control that times it. Frost blocks airflow, and the fresh-food side warms first. The diagnostic shows which part failed.

Do you repair Thermador ice makers and water dispensers?

Yes. Las Vegas water is very hard, and mineral scale is behind many of the ice and water faults we see on Thermador units.

Is it worth repairing a Thermador column refrigerator?

Usually. A column is built to fit its cabinet opening and panels, so replacing it costs far more than most repairs. When it doesn't make sense, we say so and show you both numbers.

Which Thermador refrigerators do you work on?

Freedom Collection columns, built-in French door and bottom-freezer models, and older built-in side-by-sides. Include the model number from the rating plate when you book, and our tech arrives knowing the unit.
