What People Tell Us When They Call
- Fresh-food side is creeping up past 40°F, freezer still cold
- Both sides warm and the compressor never shuts off
- Loud buzzing, rattling or a high-pitched fan sound from the top grille
- Water pooling under the crisper drawers or on the floor
- Frost building on the back wall of the freezer
- Door doesn't seal or swing closed on its own anymore
- Display flashing, alarm beeping, or a service light on
- Ice maker stopped while the rest of the unit still runs
What Usually Causes It
Condenser fan motor and coil. On most built-ins the condenser sits up top or at the bottom behind a grille, boxed in by cabinetry. In a Las Vegas kitchen that already runs warm in summer, a weak fan motor or dust-packed coil can't shed heat. The compressor runs hotter and longer, and the unit slowly loses temperature.
Evaporator fan and defrost system. A failed defrost heater, defrost thermostat or evaporator fan lets ice choke the evaporator coil. Cold air stops reaching the fresh-food side even though the freezer stays cold. This is one of the most common built-in repairs we see.
Temperature sensors and the control board. Built-ins run on thermistors and an electronic control. A drifting sensor or a board damaged by a summer power surge can make the unit run nonstop or barely at all.
Sealed system. A refrigerant leak, a restriction or a worn compressor shows up as a unit that runs constantly and never gets cold. Older built-ins that spent years fighting desert heat are the usual candidates. This is the expensive one, and it is still usually cheaper than replacing a built-in.
Door gaskets, hinges and closers. Gaskets harden in dry heat and hinge closers wear out. Warm, humid air sneaks in, frost builds, and the compressor works overtime.
What Built-In Fridge Repairs Typically Cost
Typical ranges, depending on the appliance and the repair. These are not quotes.
- Fan motor, defrost part or sensor: $350–$850
- Control board: $500–$1,100
- Door gasket, hinge or closer: $300–$700
- Ice maker replacement: $450–$850
- Sealed system (compressor, evaporator, refrigerant): $1,200–$2,500
Your exact price is set after the diagnostic ($89, or $179 for premium brands), and you approve it before any work starts.
Repair or replace?
Replacing a 36–48" built-in typically means $10,000 or more for a new unit, plus panels, trim and cabinet adjustments so the new one fits the opening. A built-in that is mechanically sound is almost always worth repairing, even with sealed-system work. If yours has already had major repairs and the cabinet is rusting or cracked, we'll say so before you spend money.

Built-In Refrigerator Repair FAQ
Do you repair Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking and other premium brands?
Yes. We repair Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Viking, Miele and Monogram. The diagnostic for these brands is $179, and it comes off the repair. Every repair has our 90-day labor guarantee.
My freezer is cold but the fridge side is warm. Is that a big repair?
Usually not. It most often points to the airflow or defrost system, not the compressor. The diagnostic confirms it.
Do you work on panel-ready and integrated columns?
Yes, including removing and refitting custom panels when a repair requires it.
Can a built-in compressor be replaced, or is the fridge done?
It can be replaced. Our tech does compressor and refrigerant work in-house.
How soon can someone come out?
You pick an arrival window when you book. If we're late for that confirmed window, the diagnostic is free.
What does a built-in refrigerator repair typically cost?
Typical repairs run $350 to $2,500 depending on the fault and the parts. Replacement is often $10,000 or more. You get one flat price after the diagnostic and approve it before any work starts.
