Likely Causes

A clogged pump filter or drain path

Socks, coins, hair ties and lint end up in the drain path. Many front-loaders have a small pump filter behind a lower access panel that collects all of it.

A kinked or blocked drain hose

If the washer was pushed back recently, the drain hose may be pinched behind it.

A failed drain pump

If you hear humming but no water moves, or no sound at all during the drain cycle, the pump itself may have failed.

Lid switch, door lock or control issue

Many washers won't drain or spin unless they confirm the lid or door is locked. A failed switch or lock can stop the cycle with water inside.

Safe Checks Before You Call

These are quick, safe checks. They aren't repairs, and we don't recommend opening up the appliance yourself.

  • Cancel and run a drain or spin-only cycle once.
  • Check that the drain hose isn't kinked behind the machine.
  • Check your manual for whether your model has a pump filter you can clear yourself. Have towels ready, because water will come out.
  • Don't keep restarting the cycle over and over. That can overheat the pump.

When to call

Call if a drain cycle doesn't move the water, if you hear grinding or humming without draining, if water is leaking onto the floor, or if a drain error code keeps coming back.

How we fix it

The $59 diagnostic finds the actual cause. You get one flat price, approved by you before anything starts, and the $59 comes off the repair when you go ahead. Workmanship guarantee: if something we touch fails, we come back and make it right. If we're late for your confirmed arrival window, the diagnostic is free.

FAQ

Washer Not Draining FAQ

Can I just bail the water out?

Yes, bailing or towel-drying is fine to keep things clean while you wait. It doesn't fix the cause, though.

Is it the pump?

Sometimes. A clogged filter, a blocked hose or a lid lock can all look like a bad pump. The diagnostic confirms which before you pay for a repair.
