Dryer Not Heating?
A dryer that tumbles but won't heat usually has one failed part, and often a reason that part failed.

Likely Causes
A blown thermal fuse
The thermal fuse is a safety part. It cuts the heat when the dryer overheats. If it blew, something made the dryer run too hot, often restricted airflow.
A failed heating element or igniter
Electric dryers heat with an element, and other models use an igniter. Either one can wear out over time.
Thermostats or sensors
The dryer's thermostats and sensors control the heat. When one fails, you can get no heat or heat that shuts off too soon.
Restricted airflow
A packed lint path, a crushed transition hose behind the dryer or a blocked exterior vent flap makes drying slow. It also burns out heating parts.
Safe Checks Before You Call
These are quick, safe checks. They aren't repairs, and we don't recommend opening up the appliance yourself.
- Clean the lint screen and check that the slot under it isn't packed.
- Check the breaker. Electric dryers use a double breaker, and if half of it trips, the drum can still turn without heat.
- Go outside while the dryer runs and check that the vent flap opens and air flows.
- Make sure the hose behind the dryer isn't crushed or kinked.
When to call
Call if there's still no heat after these checks, if you smell burning, if the dryer or laundry room gets unusually hot, or if a new part failed again quickly.

Dryer Not Heating FAQ
Why did my thermal fuse blow?
Usually because the dryer overheated. Restricted airflow is the most common reason. We check airflow so a new fuse doesn't blow again.
Do you clean dryer vents?
We check the airflow and the connection behind the dryer, and we'll tell you if the vent run looks restricted. Cleaning the full vent run isn't part of the repair visit.
