Likely Causes
Water isn't reaching it
A clogged filter, a scaled-up inlet valve screen or a closed supply valve stops ice production. Hard Las Vegas water makes this especially common.
The fill tube froze
If the small tube that feeds the ice maker freezes shut, no water gets in, even though everything else works.
The freezer is too warm
Most ice makers need the freezer near 0°F to cycle. A warm freezer slows ice production or stops it.
The ice maker or dispenser failed
The ice maker's motor, thermostat or control can fail. On in-door models, ice buildup in the ice compartment is a frequent cause.
Safe Checks Before You Call
These are quick, safe checks. They aren't repairs, and we don't recommend opening up the appliance yourself.
- Make sure the ice maker is switched on and the shut-off arm isn't stuck up.
- Check the freezer temperature setting.
- If the water filter is more than about six months old, replacing it is a reasonable first step.
- Check whether the water dispenser works. If it's weak too, the supply is the likely problem.
When to call
Call if there's still no ice a day after the checks above, if there's water leaking under the freezer, if ice keeps building up in the ice compartment, or if the dispenser runs but nothing comes out.

Ice Maker Not Making Ice FAQ
Why are my ice cubes small or hollow?
Usually low water flow: a clogged filter or a scaled inlet valve. Hard water makes this common in Las Vegas.
Do I need a whole new ice maker?
Not always. A frozen fill tube, a bad valve or a warm freezer can stop a perfectly good ice maker. The diagnostic tells you which.
